I prefer The Howling over AWIL. But the latter's transformation scene still remains a watershed moment for make up/creature efx. Also held up well decades later. Rick Baker is the Kang, but Rob Bottin is by no means a slouch. The transformations in each of those two movies have a different character to them. In AWIL, the poor guy does not understand what is happening to him. In The Howling the change is intentional. One thing I like about The Howling is that you get a good long look at the full werewolf form before any transformation.
