I'm off to see this tomorrow. I've read some really bad reviews of it but i'll make my own mind up when i see it. It won't hit all my expectations. Nothing could!

Indeed. Don't blame Baker. Blame replacement director Joe Johnston. Rick Baker did a lot of prep work on doing a practical transformation effect - mostly when original director Mark Romanek was attached. But when Joe Johnston took over he wanted to go the cg route as he said it made it faster and easier to change things as they went along. A stupid, stupid move. When you have the legend who is Rick Baker doing a werewolf film with a transformation, then you get him to do the transformation. It could never compete with American Werewolf mostly because The Wolfman transformation isn't as extreme, but it could still have been darn cool and not the pixel poo it ended up as.
Still, a fun movie despite the cgi.

Never did get to see it. When i got to the cinema the queue for the ticket stand was all the way out of the building and round the corner so we've put seeing it on hold until next week. Sodding school holidays!

Glad to know it wasnt Bakers fault. I cant believe Johnston is to blame, when he did Jurassic Park he gave Stan Winston A LOT of room to play. Winston had an entire studio dedicated to it.

Bloody stupid director. Someone should have slipped him a copy of DrakWolf and told him to check it before deciding whether he wanted CGI or not!

I didn't think the Wolfman CG was too bad overall, though I do agree that the bear especially looked, erm, silly. I still can't believe the amount that they spent on this movie, when it essentially had a fairly minimalist, old-fashioned design for the werewolf itself, not too far from what the likes of Lon Chaney Jr, Oliver Reed and Paul Naschy wore back in the day.
$85 million? Pfffft. I wonder what Jack Pierce would have done with that kind of money.

Hello to all, i was today in the movie theater and watched the movie with my girl. I liked the movie overall, even it could be more scary (as my girl pointed out). Even so i think its a very good werewolf movie.

Managed to see this yesterday and i have to say i really liked it. The CGI bear was awful but the transformation scene wasn't actually as bad as i'd feared. I loved the bleak setting and the wonderful costumes. I'm even proud to say i had worked out who the werewold was that attacked Talbot was at the beginning before it was revealed in the movie. I usually never work it out! Dispite knowing how the movie would end for Talbot i was still gutted at it's conclusion.......

Looks like Wolf Man will see unrated dvd release on June 1, 2010. www.horror-movies.ca/horror_17863.html"The Wolfman is coming to DVD and Bluray on June 1st. The regular release will be 1hour and 43 minutes and the unrated edition will feature 17more minutes. The DVD according to DVDactive will feature extended and deleted scenes where as the Bluray release will also include 2 alternate endings and featurettes on the making of the movie. The Bluray release will also let you stream the original 1941 Wolfman movie and watch it." *One thing that burns me about the news is that it seems the BluRay version and the standard dvd version will differ. So either buy both formats... or miss out? Hmmm, let's see, groceries and the light bill or A NEW Bluray Player!

I gather the bluray release contains all the features found in the dvd release, plus some extras. So you needn't buy both, provided you already have a bluray player.
