Valley of the Dragons (1961)
On Svengoolie last night. Saw this in the movies way back in high school with the girl of the month. The whatshername tall blonde? I think so. Whoever it was was unhappy that it bore almost no resemblance to the Verne novel (see below) I had enthusiastically described and never went to the movies with me again. It was not yet red-headed Kelly who used to call me up about movies she wanted to see. She was the one I saw The Haunting with. Kelly was my main crush for most of Senior year but went off to MIT (!) after graduation.
Back to the movie.
Ostensibly based on the Jules Verne novel Off on a Comet, which I had read years earlier, it turned out to be just another dinosaur and caveman movie, but with two 19th century guys as the central characters. The movie used lots of footage from One Million BC (1940), then already a groan worthy cliche for this kind of movie. It was fun nonetheless in a bad movie kind of way and Sven had his usual gentle mockery on tap. Plus I was amused to see those two 'dinosaurs' - actually a baby alligator with a sail-fin glued to its back and a miniature monitor lizard. In One Million BC (1940) they fought each other. Or were they playing?

Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Went to Mom's for Christmas and took along my HBOMax free trial so we could check this one out.
Tho it had some issues, I quite like the first Wonder Woman movie and this one took so long to come out (it was originally scheduled for December 2019 but shifted first due to other big movie release dates and then because of the pandemic) that I'm sure I built my expectations up a little too high.
As it is, while I liked it because the cast is good and enjoyable on their own, the movie is a bit of an overlong mess. Definitely could've used some tightening up in the editing at the very least, if not another script pass.
It does, however, have some Christmas-set scenes so it qualified as a Holiday Movie for me.
Oh, and if you do check it out, there is a mid-credits tag.
Surprisingly, no A Christmas Story for me this year. Not that I've not seen it enough to nearly have it memorized.

While I loved Jean Shepherd on radio in the way back, I never really liked A Christmas Story and watched it exactly once. I also loved Long John Nebel on the radio back then. Now if he had written a Christmas movie screenplay, that would have been very interesting!

Legend (1985)
The short version unfortunately. But lots of fun anyway.
Not long after I watched this, I saw the match.com commercial.

Rosemary's Baby (1968) It was the middle of the night and once again I was sleepless so I channel surfed. It was on so I watched it. This film bears lots of re-watches. Looking at a list of New Year's themed horror movies. I was surprised that this was number one on the list with the claim that it all happens around New Year. Not. There is a New Year's party but the key events, the satanic impregnation and the birth, happen on October 3 and June 25 respectively. About the latter, in the novel Minnie comments that it is half a year around from you know who. End of Days (1999) Schwarzenegger versus Satan. It would have been a shorter movie if they had sent Chuck Norris. Just kidding. The two hour length was just right to explore the plot, the backstories and the rich array of talent. And I got to laugh again at the silly theology. Best laugh: The Number of the Beast (who Revelation makes clear is not Satan) is not 666 but 999 because John, who wrote Revelation, saw his vision upside down. He also saw it in Arabic numerals, which did not exist for another 5 or 6 hundred years later. Other theological knee slappers as well but the movie is good enough to let them slide. Strange Days (1995) Um, no. I did not watch this, although it was on my shortlist. It is not streaming anywhere and is not even for sale in the US being Region 2 only. I will search around for whatever else fits the season.
