Well...my last entry for New Year's weekend. I guess it'll be time to crank up a 2021 thread next.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
They had a difficult task here - how to follow-up a sequel which countered or flat-out ignored threads set up in The Force Awakens, recover from the nerd-rage that sequel inspired that unfairly (in my opinion) ended up sinking Solo: A Star Wars Story, and, worst of all, deal with the death of Carrie Fisher when Leia was still sorely needed.
Given all that, I guess they did about as well as they could to wrap it up. Too bad that we'll likely never see another movie with this trilogy's main heroes getting to fully enjoy the spotlight.
The Beastmaster (1982)
The fantasy classic from the creator of the Phantasm series. Just received a beautiful new Blu-ray release.
My Science Project (1985)
One of my favorite 80s films. Always reminds me of my high-school days, what with all the sneaking around abandoned military bases and finding strange alien artifacts and fighting creatures from all thru history in the school halls. The good old days...
Oh, and Dennis Hopper as the science teacher.
The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)
All this time and it *still* hasn't gotten any better with age.
Of course, when Disney breaks down and finally issues a special edition Blu-ray, I'll be right there for the pre-order.

Candyman (2021) Hey! I got to watch a movie!! I'd wanted to brush up on the original Candymans (Candymen?) before watching this one, but...well, see my whining about overtime elsewhere. I liked the way they did this "reboot-quel" in that they kept it a follow-up to the original, going so far as to recount what happened to Virginia Madsen's character, Helen Lyle, back in the day. Wish more of these reboots went that way. EDIT: I got this one on disc from Netflix but the original is currently streaming free on Tubi: tubitv.com/movies/585129

A Christmas Horror Story (2015)
Caught this one on Shudder. An anthology with William Shatner doing the wraparound spots. Of note to werewolf movie fans, it takes place in Bailey Downs - the same town where Ginger snapped. Also where one of the clones from Orphan Black lived, since some of the people that made this were involved in those works.

Well, not exactly Christmas or Horror, but...
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
For the first time since January, 2020, I set foot in a movie theater. Had to leave town as our theater closed up shop not long after my last trip (and just before *everything* shut down for a bit).
The movie was great, and I say that as a long-time Spidey fan. And naturally, stay thru the credits if you don't want to miss the little added scenes. The "theater experience"...man, I didn't really miss that at all. I miss being able to hit noon Friday shows here in town with next to nobody in the place.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
Picked up the Venom double-feature Blu-ray this morning at Walmart so I watched this. Pretty enjoyable. Tom Hardy does great as Brock/Venom and Woody Harrelson hosts the evil symbiote known as Carnage.

I was at Mom's for the most of the weekend so I had to stick with more 'traditional' fare:
The Christmas Chronicles (2018) The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two (2020)
A Christmas Story (1983)
Once I got home, tho...
Die Hard 2 (1990)
Still trying to avoid too many repeat viewings and figured it had been long enough since seeing this sequel that I could skip the original Die Hard. Takes place around Christmas so it still counts.
Black Christmas (2019)
Thought about making it a director Bob Clark double-feature weekend (since he also directed A Christmas Story) and watching the original, but I think I watched it last year. Heard this second remake was better than the one from 2006 (a low bar if I remember right) so I gave it a shot. Takes a swerve in the third act when we get to the who and why behind the sorority girl killings. Different, at least.
Also watched the "Christmas Episode" of Kolchak: The Night Stalker. The fifth episode, "The Werewolf," starts as Kolchak's boss is set to go on a cruise for his Christmas vacation. His plans get changed on him and Kolchak has to go in his place. Wonder how Tony would've handled the werewolf (played by soap opera staple Eric Braeden) on board the ship?

Thought I'd toss my last movie of 2021 in here:
Get Crazy (1983)
From director Allan Arkush, who also did Rock 'n' Roll High School (1979). This movie shares a lot of the same style of humor and is full of cool music as it centers on a New Year's Eve concert at the legendary "Saturn Theater." Malcolm McDowell as the Mick Jagger-esque Reggie Wanker is one of the highlights. A lot of great small roles and cameos by both musicians and the usual Roger Corman crew - Dick Miller, Mary Woronov, and Paul Bartel for instance.
Recently released on Blu-ray, which is something I figured I'd never see with all the music licensing issues that were probably involved.

P2 (2007)
Honestly, pretty early for me to be watching any Christmas-themed anything since I've been fighting with Christmas since around August at work and really don't want to deal with it at all, but I kept hearing good things about this and I thought I saw it might be dropping off of Tubi sometime soon (it's also on a couple of other free streaming sites).
Pretty good little thriller about a woman trapped in a parking garage on Christmas Eve by a psychotic security guard.
